Mike was a great host. The lodge was clean, comfortable and cozy. It was a great place to end the day relaxing, telling about the days adventures and having a hot meal. They have fast internet that I used to stay in contact with friends and family because in Cold Bay I had no cellular service (at&t). The food was outstanding and Mike made me feel like family. Mike even showed me the sights around Cold Bay and we went fishing. We caught a steelhead, lots of silver's and dolly vardons. That evening Mike prepared a meal with fresh caught salmon! If you are ever in Cold Bay you will not regret staying at the Cold Bay Lodge.

Mary Martin’s Cold Bay Lodge is one of my favorite places to stay in the Alaska Bush... she’s always so friendly and welcoming to travelers who are visiting this tiny community on the Peninsula :)). The rooms are clean and well maintained, and the food she serves in the spacious dining room is yummy as well. The duplexes next to the main Lodge are set up for groups of guests who want to prepare their own meals (with kitchens that are well stocked with cooking gear); a large freezer is available in each to store your fish/bird harvests as well. Rental vehicles are available for exploring the area’s extensive road system (fishing, wildlife viewing, berry picking, & hunting in season). The Cold Bay Lodge is truly a delightful home away from home... enjoy :))

If you have a chance to stay here, ask Michael to take you fishing. Everything else will suddenly become so subordinate...

It's quite a bit more comfortable than the other place in Cold Bay. Although the other place has a bar. So get what you want.||This place offers rooms with a kitchen. It is old, but feels comfortable and the staff are friendly. At the end of the day, you didn't come to Cold Bay for a swank hotel. If you wanted that, Cold Bay is about 650 miles out of the way ||My dog seems to like it

About the only things bringing people here are the airport – basically just a stopover on the way to somewhere else – and the wildlife refuge, which takes up at least half of the island. To be correct, it is not really an island, but the last gasp of the mainland before starting down the Aleutian Island chain. Not that it matters, since the only way to get there is by plane, or by a five day ride on the Alaska ferry. We flew out here just to avoid the five-day ferry ride, and to catch the ferry for a one-day ride into Dutch Harbor. We had to overnight, and the Cold Bay Lodge seemed like the only game in town.||||About the only distinguishing characteristic of this Lodge– you can pretty much see the whole town from the airport – is that this particular trailer house has a low second story. We found the sign laying on the ground outside, and expected the worst. Inside, however, it was a very pleasant family living and dining area, larger than what was needed for our host and his two little girls. We selected one of the very nice rooms on the first floor, right across from a clean modern bathroom (shared). Upstairs there are two dormitory-style bunk rooms. The two girls were very helpful, and our host turned out to be a very good cook for the three meals we shared, family-style.||||The host was kind enough to rent one of his pickups to us, and insisted that we follow him down to the river to see the Bears. This was not only an unexpected surprise, but we found ourselves within just a few yards of five or six grizzly bears (one at a time, except for the mama and cub)! Our host then guided us over to the National Wildlife Refuge office and obtained a map for us, and THEN we were off on our private adventure, which would last into the next day when our ferry arrived. ||||Now I suppose if you were here to hunt or fish, the accommodations, guide service and "fun" would be different, but staying here was an unexpected delight.

I have travelled to the remote Alaska community of Cold Bay for the last 11 years, and have always stayed at Bill and Mary's Cold Bay Lodge. They are the most wonderful owners/hosts -- always warm, super friendly, helpful, and welcoming (and I enjoy the grandmotherly hugs from Mary too). The Lodge is a former FAA housing/dining facility, and has clean, comfy rooms with good beds. The duplex units feature fully appointed kitchens, with a large upright freezer, and a nice heating system that keeps them toasty. Mary''s meals in their restaurant are hearty and well-prepared -- her homemade strawberry jam (from local berries that she picks herself) is always a treat. The Lodge also rents pickup trucks, for guest who want to view wildlife on the nearby Izembek Refuge (thousands of migratory waterfowl and shorebirds, plus large brown bears and even wolves too), or to go hunting/fishing. There is wireless Internet and cable TV service for guests as well. Mary and Bill are always really helpful regarding any and all travel needs (eg, arranging for charter flights to the villages, accommodating guests who can't fly out due to weather or over-booked flights, finding a charger for my friend's camera battery, etc.). Given it's very remote location at the western end of the Alaska Peninsula, it's wonderful to have such a nice place to stay at -- and to be so wamly welcomed whenever I return there!

The lady there took care of us when we flew in after working on the fishing boats. It was well needed rest. Comfy and good food. Really really good food. The place is also very clean. She knows her stuff. Her grandson picked us up from the airport. Bar is right down the street. They have the best selection of throwback VHS movies also!

Cold Bay, AK is quite remote, and travelers to this location are here mostly for work, to hunt and fish on the Izembek Nat'l Wildlife Refuge -- or are delayed getting to other destinations. No matter what your reasons are for being here, I would really recommend Bill and Mary's Cold Bay Lodge... I've been visiting the Alaska Peninsula for 13 years, and I always choose to stay at this great facility... They are both super helpful, friendly, and kind, and will really make you feel welcome. This place also offers home cooked meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), clean and comfy rooms, and a nice lounging area in the central building. I especially like to stay at their duplex units, which are full equipped with kitchens, upright freezers (for storing your harvests), multiple bedrooms, satellite TV, and WiFi (which is a bit slow but welcome nevertheless). Vehicles can be rented to drive on the many miles of roads adjacent to and within the Refuge as well. Among the accomodation choices available here, the Cold Bay Lodge remains as my hands-down favorite... thanks Bill & Mary, for offering such great hospitality :))
