Beautiful place and hardly anyone was there. You need decent glass to spot the eagles here especially if you come at the time of the year we did (mid June). Plenty of parking and a couple of insanely easy trails. But no facilities other than bathrooms here. If you're visiting from a cruise you are not getting here on foot you definitely need to rent a car!

I did a nature float down the river that runs through the preserve and it was beautiful. Got lucky with the weather and didn’t have hardly any rain. A great opportunity to see a bunch of the classic Alaskan animals more up close and in a less competitive setting. Saw a bunch of arctic terns and a lot of active eagles nest with chicks in them. Also got lucky and saw a few mountain goats, though no moose. The guides are very knowledgeable and skilled at boat handling. Highly recommend this.

If you love birds, especially owls and hawks, then this’s the place to go and see. If you like to learn about animals then again this’s the place to check out.

It is worthwhile only between late October to early December during the salmon run. I saw more eagles in Haines Town than in the reserve in late August

Fun and safe adventure with access to view many bald eagles and get some great photos. Guides were knowledgeable. Food and drinks were average.
