If you want a place that immediately feels like a home that you don't want to leave you need to book a stay at the Funny Farm. Heidi and Bruce and wonderful, genuine people who go above and beyond to make sure your stay is comfortable. The beds and rooms are comfortable, the environment is open and easy to meet new people, and the home cooked meals followed by a sauna are simply delightful after a day of exploring Haines. I wish I had more time there. I look forward to returning in the near future. Thank you! My favourite hostel ever!

This is by far the best place to stay in Haines. Bruce and Heidi make you feel right at home as soon as you walk in the door. Within a short time you are part of the family. Heidi does everything to cater to your food needs and she prepares great home cooked meals that make you go for seconds, thirds, etc. Bruce is a great host and helps you in making sure you are comfortable and make sure you are free to have fun. They both strive to make sure you have the best stay in Haines. Don't forget to say hi to the birds! If you want clean, happy fun the funny farm is the place to stay.

I traveled solo up to Haines in the beginning of February with no set itinerary or clue of what I was up against entering Alaska during the winter. I came across Bruce + Heidi's place online and knew I found a wonderful spot and hosts before I even arrived!! Bruce called me a day before my scheduled arrival and offered advice on Haines and made me feel welcomed to the community. He also offered to include me with their family meals during my stay. When I arrived I was greeted by the whole family! Heidi's smile and enthusiasm made me feel so welcomed- she gave me a tour and let me choose what room I wanted to stay in. I was introduced to the friendly birds and pup and learned a lot about local life in Haines and immediately felt like a friend. Their house is very spacious and gorgeous! Newly remodeled, very clean, multiple floors and rooms and a huge kitchen and living room. Nestled in the woods just past the Eagle Reserve, Funny Farm AK is the perfect place for peaceful solitude with beauty outside of every window. I saw bald eagles every trip I made in to town (which was only 27 miles away) and enjoyed their sauna while watching the snow fall one afternoon. On my last day, Heidi sat down with me and really helped me plan out the rest of my trip. Over coffee she offered her insight from living in Alaska and found interest groups for me, researched places and gave me some great pointers!! She also gave me a beautiful, stained glass piece she made to guide me and it's hanging from my rear view mirror today. 🙂 I felt more at ease, well rested and centered after my visit at Funny Farm AK. Bruce and Heidi remind you what's important about life and to relax and have fun. I'm for grateful for my stay and for meeting them! This is a marvelous lodge with the warmest welcome and hospitality. A newly-rebuilt huge home/lodge with spacious timber architecture, wonderful character, hearty Alaskan meals, and owners who love nothing more than to be the best of hosts. It is out of town at 27 mile, on the Mosquito Lake turnoff, in a beautiful location perfect for heliskiing or a peaceful summer visit.

I stayed at the Funny Farm for a night while passing through on a bike tour and had a great stay. Good response to my email inquiries, flexibility with dates I would arrive, and delicious morning coffee were all perks. Highly recommended!

I stayed for a night in July 2019 and enjoyed a warm welcome. Also, the latte in the morning was excellent! I'd recommend this as an option for anyone passing through the Haines area.

Host was grumpy and didnt provide a receipt or confirmation of booking after being asked x2, contacted visa for a refund. It is unfortunate as we live near by and were really pumped to stay here, we go to Haines often .
