Many moons ago.... Would visit there to the tavern for a drink or meal when up in area at Burr Pond and skiing at Sundown. Was always a pleasant experience . A bartender named Sam ( Samantha ) was always pleasant and interested in getting " Jersey Shore " stories ...Sorry to hear it has fallen out of favor with the town. Too many things are being torn down / replaced instead of being taken care of because of their history .

The room was very cute and clean very old New England. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. It is very conveniently located downtown and close to restaurants in the winter theatre and lots of other things to do in town. Not the cheapest place in town to stay but it is worth a little bit extra money to know that you're staying in a place that's clean and bug free. I also loved the cute little pub attached to the back of the hotel.

Well...it's inexpensive, so it has that. They are starting renovations soon so that will hopefully help. It's quite old and probably hadn't ever seen any updates. The walls are cracked, the sinks and showers are old (we were a little scared to take a shower in it). The place smells musty. Our floors and doorways were on a severe slant. That'd staff seemed friendly enough. Unfortunately the on site restaurant's been closed for a while...though there's a hopping restaurant bar directly across the street. I guess you get what you paid for.

I stayed here for my brother's wedding with my parents and 2 sisters. We had 2 rooms, both with 2 double beds. The second day we were there, the owner approached my mother, who had booked the room, and accused her of lying to him and trying to cheat him because there were 5 adults, and his mind there should have only been 4 adults since we had only 4 beds. The entire duration of our stay, the owner lurked in the shadows, counting how many we had, and generally being creepy. The atmosphere was authentic, but service was pretty horrible, and had absolutely NO extra "comforts" (anything modern like a fridge or microwave). We left the inn upset at the entire experience.

I walked into a hornet's nest Wednesday night for the CT premiere of The Innkeepers, and the staff was polite, cheerful and appeared to handle large events like this on a daily basis! (BTW the movie was really good too!)
Knowing the hotel was built in 1891, and the owners are keeping the building in it's historic haunted glory, is exactly what you will get. The lobby has a welcoming feeling, which has a piano and a fireplace. Ms. Conley's chair is here also, but is reserved for her only.
The elevator is a step back in time also, since you need an attendant to run it!
The rooms were cared for fairly well. Room #356 is a decent size even for economy and felt much larger with the high ceilings.
The bathrooms were nice and clean, The only reason I didn't give a five star rating from me is the rooms weren't vacuumed with care along the edges and furniture.

So, if you are looking for a box hotel with all the amenities such as a gym, pool, etc the Yankee Pedlar isn't for you. If you want a hotel with nice clean rooms that are well attended, great personable staff, in downtown Torrington which is in some beautiful country, and a building that has more character and ambiance that you can imagine, then this is the place for you.

I stayed here in 1975. It was lovely and quaint. My father was on a business trip and I had the opportunity to visit with him. Sounds like it hasn’t changed much since then. I am from the uk.

Great staff! I can't vouch for the stay because I didn't actually stay here, I booked the hotel for my boss and crew. They said the hotel was good, but I have to write a review to applaud the service I received over the phone. Luke helped me first and was extremely courteous and informative and when a rider crashed and we had to rebook Terry, was super helpful in canceling our reservations for the remaining days we would not be able to stay. Great service! We'll def. be coming back when we're in Torrington.

It was what you would expect a New England Inn to be.
I stayed there for two months while moving from the midwest.
Stayed there with my wife and daughter waiting for our furniture to arrive. Ideal way them to start seeing the New England Culture.
