We are unfortunately quite disappointed with our tour with Tinhorn yesterday. Our driver Lary arrived punctually at 11 a.m. in his old Jeep and we set off straight away on the tour. My husband and I were the only guests. Unfortunately he didn't introduce himself, we had to ask what his name was. From stop to stop Lary said almost nothing except the names of the rocks, which are all written on anyway. Sometimes he mentioned which film was shot there. But we didn't learn anything at all about the history of the Navajos. Not even when we asked. When we still had almost 30 minutes left of the 2 hours, Lary wanted to drive back after the backcountry part, even though we hadn't driven the entire circle yet. Luckily my husband asked him about the "Artist Point", then he reluctantly drove there. And in the wrong direction, even though the Scenic Drive is actually one way. He then simply skipped another viewpoint and in the end we would have had 8 minutes left. The Monument Valley is definitely worth seeing, it is a wonderful place. The only good thing about the tour was that we also drove into the backcountry, where you are not allowed to go with your own car. We would recommend a different organization. We cannot understand the good reviews here. Especially when Lary asked us at the end whether we wanted to give him his tip in cash or by card.

Amory, our Navajo guide, has a rich family history in Monument Valley. I knew I wanted a private tour for the two of us and he provided details we would have never known. It was also a photography tour. You will miss out on the Valley’s history if you drive yourself. Other tours the drivers never leave their cabs. Thanks Amory!!!

We took the 2.5 hour Historical Sightseeing Tour of Monument Valley with Amory, our Navajo guide. He was very friendly, knowledgeable about the park and especially the Navajo culture and he knew more about my Android phone camera than I did. He took several shots for me to make the most of the features of the monuments. This tour takes you to parts of the park that are not accessible on the 17 mile self-guided, drive your own car tour. On a previous trip we did the self-drive tour and I'd only recommend it if you have a high clearance vehicle. Although there are signs throughout the park, you gain so much more knowledge and insight with a guide. Amory was the BEST. I highly recommend- it's worth treating yourself! And he went the extra mile to meet us the next morning to return our binoculars that we inadvertently left in his vehicle. Above and Beyond!

Thank you Amory for providing our tour group an extensive, detailed history of Monument Valley and sharing your culture with us! We enjoyed the whole tour around and learned quite a lot from you. If we were to just drive ourselves around, we would probably not know the history of the Valley. Thanks for showing us the best spots to take pictures, showing and pointing out the difference of each monument and making us laugh with your jokes. Thanks again Amory! I may come back and visit you again!
