I was DON for Stratford Rehab in Danville, VA. Despite mine and others cries for help relating to the behavior of the administrator it all fell on deaf ears. We call reported our concerns to compliance, and ultimately I lost my job because the administrator retaliated against me. He falsely documented details on a plan to put it on paper, but no one took my side into consideration. You have DONs at other buildings hiding pressure wounds to boost their quality measures, hiding falls, hiding injuries, yet I lose my job. I never had a single complaint under the previous administrator or at my previous facility with Saber. It is very unfortunate for the residents and staff that I am gone. I implore you to talk with the residents and staff about my work ethic, you will quickly find out how happy the residents have been since I started at Stratford. I pray they continue to receive the standard of care I expected from my staff and I wish the staff well without me.

If you want to send your loved one to a disgustingly filthy, poorly managed and owned facility well then, Currituck Health and Rehab in Barco North Carolina owned by Saber Health Care is for you! This place should be shut down by the health department. There is no way a human being could possibly thrive in this environment! Shame on you administrator Karen Brandt for obviously being blind and not caring of the condition your facility is in! Shame on you for keeping food service staff like "Rita" employed when she obviously could care less what she serves out of the kitchen. Shame on you Saber Health for operating this facility in the condition it is in and employing careless people to take care of the most vulnerable in our society. I hope that people will read this review, look at the pictures and decide not to let you care for their loved ones. If you can't even keep a plant in your lobby alive how can anyone trust you to keep their loved one alive? Be rest assured that I will be shouting this from the roof tops and telling everyone I know about this including Currituck county health department, social services and Medicare. Who ever is reaping the benefits at Saber Healthcare you obviously have no remorse, compassion or empathy and you should spend your last days in your own facility in Currituck. Please do not suggest that I call you to discuss this further. You know what your doing wrong!!! If you don't then you should get out of the business!!!

I have been a Life Enrichment Director with Saber for almost 2 years now. Coming into this position I can admit that I was lost! Silvan Bakos (VP of Life Enrichment) has gone above and beyond the call of duty to help me succeed in this field! Her passion and commitment for creating a life enrichment program that exceeds those of all other companies is astounding! Thanks to Silvana we now have a life Enrichment Advisory Board and mentors! We are networking, training, supporting and striving to help all facilities not just provide activities but to enrich our residents' lives! The future looks bright and I’m proud to be a part of it! Thank you, Silvana!

Do yourself and your loved one a huge favor and run from Matthews Health & Rehab Center, owned by Saber Healthcare Group in Charlotte, NC! Anywhere has got to be better than here! My 89-year-old father with dementia was there for two weeks recovering from a fractured tailbone. Matthews Rehab Center is poorly managed, the majority (not all) of the administration, nurses, and CNAs are incompetent, lack training, do not care, lack empathy and compassion, and are only there to collect a paycheck. Business Office Manager Sharon Staton and Social Services Director Brandy Grammer were helpful and competent. Nurses Kathy, Diane, and Penny, and CNA Melanie are wonderful, kind, competent, patient, and DO care. Do NOT let Nurse DeShell (“D”) Roberts get close to your loved one! She should NOT be assisting the elderly and helping families through this process. She lacks empathy, is incompetent, and doesn’t know how to talk to families who are worried about their loved one. When you call for help, it often takes 20-30 minutes for anyone to come, and when they do they bring their attitudes with them, making you feel guilty for asking for assistance. Several times I walked by the nurses' station and they were on their phones with their feet up on the desk, not acknowledging our presence and making us feel like we were interrupting when we had a question.
My father’s safety was at risk and we didn’t trust the staff to take good care of him. As a result, family and hired caregivers and companions were by his side 24/7, especially at night because staff didn’t check on him and he fell out of bed and was sent to the hospital. As we were nearing our discharge, the Dr. had specifically requested his catheter be removed the next morning after he woke up, be taken out of bed, and have scheduled bathroom breaks every two hours. By 10 am the next morning, we inquired when the catheter would be removed and Nurse Ratchet (aka DeShell Roberts) rudely told us the catheter had already been removed in the middle of the night, that he was taken to the bathroom twice without voiding, so they promptly put the catheter back in. A blatant LIE since someone had been with my dad all night long as our witness and no one had been in the room to remove the catheter, let alone put it back in! And why would a trained professional wake up a deeply sleeping dementia patient in the middle of the night to remove and re-insert a catheter when the Dr’s notes specifically said “IN THE MORNING AFTER HE WAKES UP!” LIES. Yes, we are reporting Matthews Rehab Center to the State, as well as the lying nurse to the Board of Nursing. If you plan to go to Matthews Rehab, know you are putting your loved one at risk and potentially in danger.
Additional complaints: Phones rang more than 25 times at the front desk and nurses station, on several different occasions, with no answer. The common area tables are dirty, dirty sheets and soiled diapers were left in the room on a chair or on the floor without being cleaned up. No consistency with meal delivery or picking up dirty trays (lunch tray still there when dinner arrives). Very little staff on weekends—looks like a ghost town!

By the way, my dad was at Matthews Rehab 4.5 years ago for two months when it was called The Carrington Place and under different ownership and management (not Saber). It was a WONDERFUL experience. The administration, nurses, and aides were amazing, helpful, compassionate, and had become like family. Because of the great experience, we were excited my dad was going there again and trusted he would be well taken care of. How wrong we were and disappointed that this place is not at all what it once was and that our elderly population is not being well cared for.

The day I had a medical procedure done I was pressured by management to work a double shift. Management was toxic, uncaring, and continuously lied to mine and co-workers faces.

We were also consistently short-staffed. At one point on a hall of over three dozen patients, there was only one other CNA and I working. I would never work for Saber Healthcare again.
