This building is one of the most beautiful in Mtn Hm. It's named for an incredible woman who was a trailblazer in Arkansas politics and a fervent supporter of Mountain Home, Veda Sheid. The college, the bridges over Lake Norfork... There are so many projects that can be traced back to this incredible woman! Every time I get to visit The Sheid (named for Veda), I can't help but to be in awe of my surroundings. I'm an architecture freak, but anyone can appreciate the beauty of this event center. The mix of FLLW-esque design and modern materials and influences makes exploring this building a delight each time I get the opportunity to do so. I'm always in awe of its details and character, and I find new details to appreciate each visit. Even if you don't have time to see the whole campus, The Sheid is worth the time and effort! It's on my bucket list to spend an entire day here with simply my thoughts and my camera to soak it all in!

(This ends my review of The Sheid. Wanted to lyk in case you're tired of hearing from me! ?)

Btw, my latest visit was for an event worth mentioning: Night to Shine. I've attended church services, symphony performances, many Bomb Squad (the local HS robotics team) events, and historical and contemporary artists' performances in this gorgeous setting. Last week, I had the privilege to volunteer for Night to Shine (sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation). I'll try to make this short: y'all know how to Google stuff. I'm simply so impressed and blessed by this annual event, I had to share about it. Besides, I can't be the only one in town who heard of it for the first time this year. In short, Night to Shine is prom for special needs folks, aged 14 and up. So simple, yet so genius and needed! How many of you saw the special needs kids at your HS prom? This event is SO HUGE to the participants, some of them keep a countdown calendar at home: i.e., X more days until the next Night to Shine!

But hey, this is more than just prom. There's a limo ride around campus, a red-carpet event complete with paparazzi, dinner, karaoke, and a night club dance area with a professional DJ.

I've been told that this year we (I'm only a volunteer) served over 100 honored guests with the help of 350 volunteers. When you hear about it next year, sign up! I promise you'll feel more blessed than the folks being served! I just might need a countdown calendar myself! (Thanks for letting me hijack this review of The Sheid to shout out about Night to Shine!)
