We had a most wonderful stay for Labor Day weekend! Alex provided wonderful service...carrying our bags up the 80 or so steps to our ocean view room, providing great recommendations for food, making morning coffee, and always providing a friendly face! The location is super central, easy to reach from the ferry landing, and distant enough to be quiet. The room was adequate and clean, but could use a bit of TLC to make it even better. The views were spectacular and the bistro lights on the terrace charming. We would stay again for sure!

We booked a Preferred King room. They said check in was at 4pm and our room wasn't ready until 4:45. Had to wait in the lobby. Mattress was hard with no mattress cover. No lamp in room for reading, just a main overhead light. Kitchenette not fully operational. No closet. No chair to sit in. The television didn't work but the maintenance guy did replace the bad video box. Their "Dive Bar" was not open.....I guess it was too late in the season. No coffee maker or coffee in the kitchenette. The coffee down in the lobby wasn't available until 7:30am or later. The only windows looked out at the alley and building next door....UGH. The best part of the Hermosa were the front desk people but we will never stay at the Hermosa again.

Catalina Island holds a special place in my heart, as my great grandparents founded the iconic Hermosa Hotel in 1896. Though I haven't visited often, we chose to celebrate our daughter’s birthday at this historic spot, and it was a truly magical experience.

From the moment we arrived, Alex’s warm welcome and attentive service set the tone for our stay. Mimi’s friendly support made us feel right at home. Our charming cottage was perfect—spacious, with a lovely kitchen, and ideally located.

It’s heartwarming to see the Hermosa, once my family’s legacy, so beautifully cared for. We look forward to making annual visits a cherished tradition.

We stayed there is a perfect location! We got the two rooms with shared bathrooms, perfect for a family, bathrooms are small. Staff was great they offered beach towels, or anything we could need,they have a supply room with floaties, chairs, beach toys, coffee in the main lobby every morning, and you can leave your luggage there if you get early before your checkout time. Location was perfect walking distance from restaurants, beach, stores and main street. Definitely recommended ?

The view from the top room was lovely! And made walking up all those steps worth it. The room smelled a kind of musty, I found some matted hair on the blanket but I was able to get a new one easily. I probably would choose not to stay here next time.

Honestly, the accommodations would get a one star if not for the baggage storage, beach equipment, restroom, and lobby.

We used those amenities heavily given the amazing proximity to downtown. Although brought our own beach gear not knowing of the check out option.

The room however, seemed to have a lot of “landlord special” with obvious aspects of the space needing an update but instead being painted over.

The worst part was our shower. So dingy was the floor that we both opted to shower in our water shoes even after a long day of wearing them at the beach.

Excellent hotel, comfortable rooms. A pleasure to stay at the Hermosa. Hotel is central to activities and attractions. Staff was very pleasant and courteous. The ocean view rooms gives you the very best breath taking views. This is one of my most memorable moments on Catalina Island.

Our first room was *disgusting*. The bathroom floor was sticky, the shower looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months, and the walls were crusty. We requested to be moved and were given a somewhat cleaner room, but this one had a leaking shower, leaving the floor constantly wet. Even in a "renovated" suite, it felt more like staying in a poorly maintained college apartment than a proper hotel.

The beds were flat and hard, just like the pillows. The entire property seemed rundown, with the buildings appearing to be rotting.

We will definitely be staying elsewhere next time.
