Adventures By the Sea Downtown at the Portola Hotel provides a lot of opportunities to explore Monterey. Lots of peddling to enjoy the sights in and around downtown. Reservations can be made online, which is required if for later the same day. You can also fill out the liability waivers on line. While the vehicles they rent may not be built for speed, they get you where you need to go.

The bikes are getting a little old. We were given a pretty squeaky one, both didn’t have working bells, and the front fork needed grease. Both of our helmets were dirty and hadn’t been cleaned. However, the staff was nice.

We had a great ride! The bikes were definitely showing their wear, bells were broken/missing, and the helmets were dirty, but the staff were nice and helpful.

We got a one hour E-bike rental so we could ride the promenade out to Lovers Point, then back to the naval base, then back to the rental shop. Timing was perfect. Bikes were great, plenty of battery as long as you are willing to pedal even a small amount. The reviews complaining about running out of battery before the point must have been going full throttle and zero pedalling, and/or weighed 300 lb. The guy in the shop was very friendly and helpful.

Went in to get set up with bikes for the next morning. The agent was a bit rude and didn’t actually help us get set up with bikes. It was left very unclear whether we could reliably walk in the next morning to get bikes; we left and decided to go to the Cannery Row location instead.

The old man at this location was rude to us. We went in there hoping to rent the big bike with the 2 pedals/5 passengers. The man pointed at the yellow QR code at the door as he walked as to the door to fill out the Surrey rental form. During the process of filling it out, a family walked in and he helped them at the desk. As we waited for a turn in line, a couple walked in, and he assisted them ignoring the fact we were in line. At first we thought that they’re just handing him the key and leaving, but it actually took longer to help them. Then after he was done with helping the couple, another group of people walked in and he helped again ignoring the fact that we are next in line. So we ended up leaving, my friend made sure to let him know that he was being unfair to us since we waited at least 30min if not longer for him to help us. He made sure to let her know that he didn’t care and didn’t want our business. Bad customer service!! Ruined our experience and disappointed 3 children.

Rented a bike here after a conference and was able to get it overnight (pick up close to closing) and return the next day by noon -- allowing me to do a sunset ride. Anthony was super helpful, and can't wait to come back and do the combo kayak and bike deal!!
