My daughter and I booked the Klondike Rock Climbing & Rappelling excursion in September off the Princess cruise ship. We had a wonderful experience. Kingsley was very professional and guided us and two Seniors to safely climb up the face of the mountain. I felt totally secure rappelling down and confident that the ropes and climbing gear would protect me. If the ropes can hold him, then it most certainly can hold 105 pounds of me! My daughter was experienced doing indoor rock climbing but had never rappelled down a mountain. Wish we had more time so that could learn how to hop down faster like the movies! Pure fun and challenging! I would do it again! And again... with Kingsley!

My wife and our friend did an Alaskan cruise in September and by far the kayaking excursion on Chilkoot Lake was our favorite part of the whole trip! We had some fantastic tour guides - Keeley, Cooper and Shepard. The lake is beautiful and we could see so many waterfalls and bald eagles from our kayak. Seeing the salmon was also a neat add. Overall, what made this trip great was being with some young folk who were personable and funny. The trip to and from the ferry boat was filled with laughter and fun facts about the Haines area. I can’t say that I would come back and do this exact excursion again only because this was my first time to Alaska, so I want to be able to check out other parts of this beautiful state. What I can say is that I would do another excursion with this group of tour guides! They are so much fun and knowledgeable. I’ll never forget this experience with them, my wife, and friend.

Fun but.... Be aware.

Just being in Alaska was enough to make it amazing.

Unfortunately, I feel the need to express my disappointment with the kayaking portion of our trip. It was supposed to be a 2 day trek - Kayak and then Hike to a Glacier. Sadly, on the first day there was no attempt or even a mention of the possibility of going to the glacier. Instead, before we even got on the water, we were presented with two options. We could go 4 MI and camp or 7 mi and camp but if we went to 7 mi camp and weather changed we would end up carrying our kayaks back because there was no way to get picked up.

I suggested we head to the 7 Mile camp to see how things go and head back if the weather changed at all or, just head back to the 4 Mile camp to 'overnight' just in case.

At about the Three Mile Mark we were told that we were going to camp at the 4 Mile point and maybe have a hike in the morning before we returned in the kayaks. This was the decision after being on the water for just over an hour. The 'potential' for bad weather was a recurring theme despite the weather being calm and beautiful for 2 days.

I didn't push the issue because it seemed clearly pre-decided that that was what was going to happen. There was no weather or other related reasons for not kayaking further. (see Pics)

Again, Just being in Alaska was enough to make it amazing, despite camping on a public beach filled with people and stray/unattended dogs. Certainly not the kayaking/camping adventure I was expecting or paid for. At least be upfront that 'potential' weather could alter your amazing trip and have a reasonable 'Plan B'. That was a very expensive day on a public beach!

My advice to anyone would be to avoid the sea kayaking trek and spend the day or two on the Fjord express. Save a bunch of money and see a lot more. I am sure if your day cruise gets cancelled "plan b" won't be: "Well, you can look at the pictures on our website"

We went on a hike with Jake and Kennedy, they managed the group perfectly and we all felt safe and secure. The two of them knew the area intimately, and had so many facts about floral, wildlife, and the surroundings.

Our climbing and rappelling guides Sophie and Kingsley in Skagway, AK did a top notch job with our group. Safety, fun and adventure was were all checked off on the list.

I did the Chilkat Wild Safari. It was great. We got to see so many eagles. This tour goes in a motorized canoe. You do have to paddle at times but I finally learned how to properly paddle without over exerting myself. We saw Salmon jumping and saw creeks where they go up to spawn. It was nice to get a tour from folks who are local to the area versus seasonal employees. Everyone I met in Haines was really nice. The lunch that is provided was actually pretty good. Wish it included a salmon spread like other tours but they had gluten free and vegetarian options, they also had caffeine free teas. The tea and hot chocolate were much appreciated as it started to rain just as we arrived. Be sure to use the bathroom before or after your tour. There are bathrooms but they are more like outhouses and bears have been known to be in the area plus once on the canoe there is no stopping to potty.

We had Cole as our guide for a hike and float in Skagway. He was fabulous. Very funny, personable, and informative but also focused on our groups safety. He is truly one of the best guides we have had. The hike was beautiful and challenging and the raft float was relaxing and a lot of fun. Recommend 100%!

Our cruise stopped at Skagway Alaska and while there my wife and I booked a kayak and wildlife spotting tour on Lake Chilkat. The tour was run by Alaska Mountain Guides based in Haines Alaska. Our guides Grace and Shawn were outstanding. Plus got to see a mother brown bear and her cubs!
