Team Steve!!! Oh my gosh, this shop is amazing, and as someone who was very nervous going into diving, I can not recommend Steve as an instructor more. Many of my friends are divers, and after chatting with them, none of them had an experience when learning nearly as grounding and positive as it was to work with Steve. He was so patient with our class, did an amazing job of explaining things and showing us, and allowed me personally to feel so comfortable and safe throughout the training and in the water. He was so prepared, on top of everything, and truly made the experience so memorable for me and my friend. I am now already addicted to diving, and it wouldn’t be the case had he not provided such a great experience. Gear was also way better quality than the other shop I went out with, and they have high quality things for sale. Do your dive lesson here!!!

My friend and I got our advanced open water certification through them and really enjoyed the experience! Steve was a great instructor, very friendly and knowledgeable, and always helpful. His dog Archer was pretty adorable as well! The dive sites in Monterey were beautiful, although a bit cold (be prepared for THICK wetsuits and some shivering if you’re not in a dry suit). Overall would recommend hands down and will come back to them if we’re in the area again!

I came to discover California’s open water the first time. Brian is a great dive guide, really took time to assess condition of the dive site and not settle for anything less than ideal nor jeopardize safety. Very knowledgeable of various Monetary Bay dive sites. Due to the rapid changing weather condition that morning, we still manage to squeeze in some good dives. Highly recommended.

Did my open water cert through this shop. Steve is a great instructor and super cool guy. He also was patient explaining gear essentials to a new diver. Brian, the other person running the shop, is also awesome and fun to hang around. These guys are super experienced and know their stuff, and most importantly care about training people to dive and giving them personalized attention as opposed to just making money. Highly recommend this shop over any other shop!

Steve and Brian are amazing! They do a fantastic job of teaching small classes, giving you individual attention, and curating the experience to make it the best for you. They’re really out there trying to make as many divers as possible. They both are clearly passionate about diving. They’re fun people to be around, and phenomenal teachers. When buying gear, they’re upfront about prices and quality. They don’t try to upsell you. I seriously cannot recommend them more. I know that I’ll be returning to dive and buy from them many more times.

California Ocean Adventures is the best dive shop in Santa Cruz County, they are truly a family run dive shop that will take care of you time and time again. They offer everything you could possibly ask for and are extremely friendly and laid back. Brian and Steve are two great guys and you'd be lucky to be certified or dive with either of them! I've had such a great experience through this dive shop from first getting my open water to now getting my rescue diver and moving onto dive master! Would give 6/5 stars if that was possible.

Me and a friend had a trip to Jamaica a month away. Called these guys and they got us certified in 3 days. They love diving, are super knowledgable and make getting your certification fun and exciting. They have tons and tons of amazing dive stories from all over the world. 10/10 recommend them and love their passion for the water.
