Currently it’s 7:35AM and the Columbus house is running the warming center. We are unable to leave but there is no food being provided. This is basically a hostage situation. I came here for shelter but I’m unable to leave to get food? Then the food should be provided. Their employees don’t know how to properly communicate with the people staying at the warming center. Everyday the rules change depending on who’s working. It’s as inhumane as Christopher Columbus was to the Native Americans. They pay their employees to be disrespectful and to sleep on the clock. Someone needs to check where their funding is going and properly train their employees so that the information is accurate and consistent. If you’re gunna lock us in here then treat us better!

The staff perform illegal surveillance beyond the premises of Columbus house. I have had a razor blade broken off in my tire by one of the other clients here in an attempt to slash my tire. The owner of Columbus House parked his vehicle 2.5 inches away from my vehicle as some sort of passive aggressive signal. The staff are constantly talking about personal information about the clients that live here. The Staff go into your room at night without knocking and take things while you are asleep, replacing room keys while you sleep. I have had Staff members of a Columbus house hit my car with their car and then yell and swear at me when I confronted about it.

I have been homeless for a few months and suffer from anxiety and depression. Four days ago I was able to get a job and on my 2nd day, when my wallet was stolen and I lost everything. I was in such low spirits I was contemplating just giving up on life. I wanted to just die. I called my case worker Ms. Lea Walsh and told her my situation. This magnificent woman went above and beyond to help me and not only save my job but my life. In just a few hours she restored my faith in humanity, which had been destroyed. She not only figured out a way to get the last piece of identification so I could keep my job(without my ID, but she was also able to help me replace my train pass so I could make it to work. I hadn’t eaten in two days and she had the main building of Columbus House make food for me so I wasn’t hungry. She was also one of the main reasons that I was able to get into the main building and become a day sleeper. I work from 1am-1pm in Stamford. So I was getting no sleep and I felt like I was slowly dying. There are many caseworkers who claim they are here to help. But are just there for the paycheck and hate the people that need them. But Ms. Walsh is not just talk. She saved my life. I had never been so serious in contemplating suicide in my life. I felt all was lost. Like I was nothing and had nothing and could do nothing to help my kids so why should I live. She gave me my hope and more importantly my life back. I will forever be thankful for what she did. She treated as a human with decency and respect. Not like a loser or a failure or a bum as I’ve been feeling and how I’ve been treated. I cannot speak for any of the other caseworkers, but you have a real guardian Angel working at Columbus house. I just felt I had to let you know. So many good deeds go unknown and unrewarded but I could not let that happen in this case. I hope there is someway you maybe able to reward her. I don’t know what you would see as a sufficient reward for saving someone’s life but it would never be able to amount to my eternal gratitude. Thank you for your time and please hire more people like her so the world may become a better place. Have a wonderful day.

I stayed at the Colombus house for 6 months in the beginning of 2019. I had Eleanor for a caseworker. If you follow their directions and don't get involved with the petty stuff that happens there you will be fine. It's a roof over your head and for most people it's food to eat. When I stayed I was out early in the morning and came in at the very last minute at night. Eleanor pointed me in the right direction to get the housing assistance that I needed. This place humbled me in so many ways and I am truly grateful for this stepping stone!

They are okay but all of the case managers are not helpful. I would go for the outreach workers because a lot of them are highly recommended by other people. I go there to take showers every day and the lady at the front desk can be really nasty sometimes. I really don't like when people are nasty for no reason. For the most it's an okay place to go for services.

My husband is staying at the Columbus medical recovery building. He's sick and was placed there to recover.a certain male employee is picking on him and making things up like he left at 4 am . How could he of left at 4 no buses no transportation and he's dying? I have told him to write a grievance. My uncle stayed there before he passed and caught scabies .the man who is picking on my husband needs to stop before he gets fired.do not stay here they pick favorites. This certain employee has slammed doors in my husband's face and now is making up lies.if anything I will sue them. All false accusations. The employee his name is Sean .he hates white people and
