A short hike to a fun cave. The entrance was a bit tricky but after that it’s smooth sailing. No stooping or crawling needed but there is one little fun hole you can crawl into about half way through to the right. Went on a Saturday and only met two other people. Headlight is needed but the light does enter for about 1/3 of the way in.

This was such a quick and easy hike to the Coronado cave! It was so fun to enter the cave and explore the cave. I highly recommend to explore this area, but so your research and be prepared first!
TIPS:
-wear gloves with grip for entry and exit
-wear a mask due to particles filling the air
-wear boots with grip
-bring a light source, recommend hands-free head lamp
-pick up your or any other trash along the way

This is one of the best hidden gems for a family adventure in Arizona. Its free and has a paved road the whole way, helpful ranger station, and a cave that almost anyone can walk through unguided to see amazing massive formations. The hike to the mouth of the cave is short but can be a bit much for some people. It's not rocky just steep inclined in some stretches. Young children regularly hike it. Water is a must and do NOT go into any cave system during monsoon season. Even if it's clear skies that can change in minutes and you won't know while in the cave. No pits or holes to fall into. Gloves and hardhat are a smart idea. Especially for children. And bring a camera!!!!!
(If you're into caving in rabbit holes there are a few with some gorgeous rewards at the end. No shimmy or side squeezes but lots of belly crawling in muck and drip. Please respect the formations and remember that the straws aren't for drinking soda ? ?) Have fun!

After a half mile climb on a steepish trail, the entrance is visible. The entrance is not technical, just watch your step down the sandy slope. The caverns are huge as you walk into the cave. It ends after about a hundred yards, maybe less. Lots of side slots if you dare to crawl into them. Bring gloves, good footwear and a headlamp. Charge your mobile device as a backup light and try not to kick up too much dust as you walk the cave. No one there when I explored! Perfect?

We didn't get any trail map, just a list of trails. There were few trail markers and we got confused and off trail twice! The caution that it's a steep and rocky trail is no joke. The entry/exit to the cave is super rocky and you need to be really physically ready and have headlamps for each person. We're proud of ourselves for getting up there, but we didn't tackle entering the cave itself.

Definitely worth a visit if you're in the Sierra Vista area. The drive to the trail head is really pretty with a visitor center just down the road. The hike up to the cave isn't bad at all, the most "difficult" portion is the entrance of the cave due to sand and dirt making the rocks slick (bring a headlamp so both hands are free to climb/ slide down). Besides the entrance portion the cave is awesome and easy to walk around it, like I said before definitely worth a visit.

I highly recommend this cave!!! It is totally free. It does have a 1/2 mile hike almost all up hill to get to this cave. The parking is only for 7 vehicles. Once to the cave, the opening is the most difficult part about the cave. There, the rocks are a bit slippery, but once u are in, it levels out and goes on for about 1,500 feet. There is a small branch of the cave that was awesome to try. You have to almost crawl. It goes in for about 200 feet. It was great exploring this thing!!! Bring bright flashlights.

It was neat to see, but the cave was very dusty. It has long ago died and it is not maintained. Pieces of stalagtites have been removed. Very sad. Graffiti and trash to be found as well.
