My husband has been in the memory care unit for 3 months now. Staffing in this unit is inadequate. I've spoke to the director several times in the last three months. He explained that people were sick, or had quit and that it is very hard to find caregivers.
I can't tell you how many times there was no one on the floor and I had to search ever hall way and knocked on closed office doors with no one behind them trying to find help to no avail. The few people that are still there are extremely burned out with the excessive workload.
Medications have not been given a number of times, and compression socks left on all night a number of times when they should have been removed.
At times caregivers from other floors have filled in but the do not read the chart for notes, updates and/or changes for the resident.

Went on a tour and was shown rooms that needed paint and carpet. Filthy rooms. Why would the managers allow that? If I were in charge only freshly painted and carpeted rooms would be shown to prospective clients. Showing a room that is not in pristine shape gives a feeling that the whole facility is run that way. If you are considering placing a loved one, look elsewhere. How hard is it to paint and carpet a unit after it is vacated? Here’s an example of the toilet cleanliness. Gross.

We enjoy walking around the gardens and across the street at the park. Everyone is nice and says Hello. Friendly dogs live here too. The lobby and dining room are nice, but the hallway carpet in the Independent Living side needs to be replaced. Overall we like it here.

Was a great time singing Christmas carols and spending time with your clients. The staff was awesome and very nice to provide pie and coffee. Thank you and blessings to all of your staff and families for caring for our Seniors.

I’ll start with the facility. It’s old and run down and in serious need of repairs. My mother’s room door had to be opened with a pocket knife!. The carpets are stained and dirty, the walls and doors are dirty. You can see the build up of dirt in the corners of base boards and the elevator. Considering this is meant to be a hospital type setting, they have failed on their cleanliness. I would expect it to be gleaming! I would expect them to keep up with regular maintenance of their facility. I would expect more than the lobby to be up dated.

The staff at the front desk were friendly and helpful; however, the nursing staff on the third floor need to be fired. They neglected to care for my mother the way she needed. The way they were being paid to care for her. She was in-residence for ONE WEEK before leaving in an ambulance!

The third floor of the facility requires a staff member to let you down. Each time I left, I had to walk up and down the halls searching for a staff member to let me down. They are clearly under staffed, which was my first concern.

My mom has Alzheimer’s and diabetes and the staff failed to provide all of her medication and were not ensuring she was eating or drinking. I showed up once after she had thrown up, which she didn’t remember doing, and the room and my mom had not been properly cleaned. The room smelled horrible, there was vomit on the wall of her bathroom and you could still see vomit on the floor, on my mom’s slippers, the bottom of her feet, and around her mouth. The nurse on duty passed it off like her vomiting was no big deal. She continued to vomit and have diarrhea all week without a single nurse questioning why until it got so bad that she was having trouble breathing!

They were not helping her shower and she had clearly gone that whole week without having her hair washed. My dad and I brought in food and drinks for her, but outside of that no one was ensuring she was eating or getting enough fluids. They never checked her blood sugar.

My dad scolded the nurses for not giving her all her medications or managing her care. She had a swollen foot that my dad brought in a bandage for, but the staff never put it on her, saying the doctor needed to look at it. The doctor never looked at it and she limped around all week.

At the end of that week she was in the hospital with dangerously low blood sugar, dehydration, and a fever because she had the flu! All of this could have and SHOULD have been avoided! The third floor nursing staff is incompetent, uncaring, and neglectful.
Needless to say, my
Mom never returned and everyone should be very wary of leaving their loved one at Cottonwood Village!

I cannot say enough about Avalon and Tracie. Their willingness to work with us as my mom needed time to make the huge decision to leave her home of many years yo move to independent living. We were able to see multiple spaces, never felt pressured, only kind understanding for my mom.

The staff was courteous, professional, and caring throughout the process of touring the facility, explaining the amenities, providing cost information, and working with my father and me to get the best results.
Avalon Lionheart your sales assistant was remarkable. She expertly guided us thru the process and my Dad and I really appreciated her thoughtfulness and professionalism.
We also met a nice lady working at the welcome desk. One of the chefs, and got to see a lot of satisfied Tennant's enjoying activities.
My initial contact was with Tracie Schimikowsky the Sales and Business Director. She set us up for a tour but my dad wasn't up to it at that time so I had to cancel. She opened the door to us and let me know she would keep in touch.
Yesterday we made a secondary tour to select my dad's apartment. We met with Jerod, I think he is the Operation, he was very competent and started getting things done to expedite getting my dad into his new the facility ASAP.
My Dad and I were pleasantly pleased with the staff and the wonderful facility.
Sincerely,
Patrick Parks

I come on Monday afternoon with others from Verde Community Church to sing Hymns with the residents. We had an excellent time worshiping and sharing with one another.
Samantha, the Activities Director, is most helpful!
