One of the best railway museums in the area! Completely volunteer run, this museum is only open on the weekend, but features a museum on the inside of the station and a huge railyard with historical trains. You must ride the train, just a few dollars more and allows you to ride to the end of the yard, and travel around one of the oldest turntables in the country! This is an active station for Metronorth, Connecticut line, but the museum is in a different part of the yard. Everyone was super friendly. Gift shop was amazing and had so many unique items!! Alfred Hitchcock's movie, Strangers on a train, was also filmed at the museum!

A gem of a place, worth the 2 hour drive to see. Well priced and you can easily spend a couple hours there. Train ride included a ride on the turn table which was great fun. No cafe on site but think you get a discount for across the road with admission looking at the back of the receipt. Train rides are 3 dollars a head so very well priced and staff are fantastic. There's also a bunch of brio for kids to play with and loads of model trains on display

Entrance is reasonably priced and the highlight is the outside display. Everyone will enjoy it, but kids that love trains will be in heaven.

The Danbury Train Museum’s holiday children’s program is an absolute treasure! From the moment we walked through the doors, we were greeted with warmth and excitement that set the perfect tone for the day. The volunteers are truly the heart of this place—they are not only incredibly knowledgeable about trains and history but also have a remarkable way of connecting with children. Their passion and enthusiasm made the experience magical for kids and adults alike.

The program itself was perfectly tailored to engage and delight little ones, with interactive exhibits, fun activities, and holiday cheer around every corner. The museum’s environment is so welcoming and cozy, making it feel like we were part of a big, happy family.

We were blown away by how much care and attention to detail went into every aspect of the event, from the decorations to the hands-on opportunities for the kids to learn and explore. It’s clear the team pours their hearts into making this a special experience, and it shows.

Whether you’re a train enthusiast or simply looking for a fantastic way to celebrate the season with your family, the Danbury Train Museum is an absolute must-visit. We can’t wait to return next year!

This is a great place. Tons of cool railroad memorabilia and exhibits. The train yard has lots of cars, some of which you can climb aboard after a brief train ride around the lot. Great gift shop too.

This was the cutest place ever. The tickets were very inexpensive and we got 2 free pumpkins, yummy apple cider, apple cider cookies or pumpkin spice. The staff was extremely friendly and very knowledgeable. I think I loved that they all just loved trains like little kids. My son is obsessed with trains and loved every moment of it. Their gift shop is not very big but has some great items all prices range. Definitely would go back.
