I have nothing against the organizers, but these day trips are NOT good value for younger people with high energy levels, high metabolism and nutritional needs. I was looking forward to the trip to Block Island, but as it turns out, you spend most of your time on the bus and then the ferry. You spend very little time on the actual island, exploring, hiking, really experiencing the island. It might be good for older folks who don't mind sitting for hours and hours, talking to each other and casually looking at the scenery without paying much attention. I spent total of 8 hours on the bus and 2 hours on the ferry. That's a lot of time just sitting. It's very hard on my back. The food was not served on time. We were supposed to have lunch at noon, and it wasn't served until 1 pm. The variety was lacking, portion size was not generous. There was not even a glass of wine included with the lunch. Ridiculously tiny helpings of bread. The water was warm and served in plastic cups, and it smelled funny. The dessert was really bad - biscuits with supermarket whipped cream and canned strawberries. That was called "strawberry shortcake". $200 is a lot to pay for a day of sitting on the bus, even though the people were friendly. I just don't think there is a way to make this trip work, given the logistical constraints. To compensate for the lack of time on the island, the organizers should upgrade the meal experience, or at least provide snacks on the bus. We made a stop at McDonald's in Mystic, and we didn't even have a chance to grab a burger because the staff could not handle the influx of travelers. Maybe the tour organizers should provide boxed lunch and give more time on the island.
