Wow! If you want to experience the breathtaking natural beauty of Georgia's coast like a true local this is the tour for you.

I recently had the privilege of visiting Sapelo Island, a well-preserved barrier island off the coast of Georgia that is only accessible by ferry to registered guests. This exclusivity keeps the island off the beaten path and preserves its natural and historical character, making it an absolute treasure.

As I explored the island on the Explore Sapelo tour, led by our knowledgeable guide Peter, I was struck by the fascinating blend of history and nature. We visited 5000-year-old Native American ceremonial rings, the old mansion, the 'Chocolate Plantation,' with a restored barn and remains of tabby slave quarters.

But Sapelo Island isn't just a museum of history - it's also a vibrant ecosystem with pristine beaches, lush forests, and a diverse array of wildlife. We even had the chance to search for an elusive herd of feral cattle that have roamed the island for over two centuries, and our efforts were rewarded with a fleeting glimpse of an adult female crossing our path.

Led by our expert guide, Peter, we trekked deep into the coastal forests of the island and discovered evidence of the herd along the way - droppings and a full skeleton (minus the skull).

After an exciting search, we finally spotted the real thing - a lone adult female crossing the dirt path ahead of us. The feral cattle are incredibly quick and agile, so the sighting was brief, but it was a triumphant moment that put this tour over the top of any other tour I have ever been on anywhere along the Georgia Coast.

Exploring the island's rugged terrain in a four-wheel drive vehicle was an adventure in itself, and Peter's expert guidance brought every aspect of the island to life. He is a full-time island resident with an extensive knowledge of its history, and his passion and enthusiasm were contagious.

Overall, the Explore Sapelo tour was a truly unforgettable experience that exceeded all of my expectations. If you're looking for a well-preserved, off-the-beaten-path destination that combines history, nature, and adventure, then Sapelo Island should be at the top of your list. It's a hidden gem that offers an immersive and authentic glimpse into a unique and fascinating corner of the world.

WOW WOW WOW….. Words could NEVER describe Sapelo of its worth!! If you’re are a first timer or tenth timer to the Island… then we would HIGHLY recommend Peter as a guide. We took the long tour on a Tuesday and wish we would have had 10 more days there. The tour was amazing, but the best part was when were blessed by meeting his amazing wife Miriam, her family are directly connected to Sapelo, so make sure you take the time to read their story on their website. I will close with this…. Stop thinking about it and book a tour, you can Thank us Later!! Make sure you take a walk on the beach, your mind will be blown!!

Sapelo Island is a unique treasure, rich in history and natural, untouched beauty. Peter is a guide that truly understands all aspects of Sapelo.
