This national historic area is the site of a former British settlement in the Colony of Georgia. You can see how the village was set up on a grid system for the roads. There is a lot of history about the individual houses in the settlement, and the fort. Only part of the fort remains. Cool history here.

If you like history you should stop when on the island. The grounds include remnants of the homes and the fort, a few cannons, and lots of artifacts. The movie tells the story of the fort and the families that settled there. Learned quite a few things.

The grounds and movie are free to view. There is also a small information center, shop, and restrooms.

Loved seeing the remains of the tabby houses, shops and businesses along what once was a laid out colony, streets along avenues of Live Oaks, on the Frederica River. Fascinating stories of who lived and made up this place of Georgia’s colonial past.

Interesting to see how a quaint little village was thriving for 13 years and then slowly disappeared. There are remnants of the homes outlines as well as some of the fort itself. 3 cannons remain. Beautiful grounds.

My teen children were here a few years ago in summer camp and really enjoyed it. I finally got the opportunity to go and be with them, and I really enjoyed walking around in a peaceful setting. The park could use a refresh on the signs, but I don't expect that anytime soon as I think too many politicians and citizens have a lack of appreciation for these types of places.
