Always great to stop and just enjoy the night sky in a dark corner of California! There was a lecture 2 nights by some experts in the astronomy field. You can walk around at night with only the starlight and milkyway. Yes, the field is used as a cow pasture for part of the year, and you can find some dried cow patties, but it is mostly dried grasses and dirt on a fairly level ridge field, with views of Mt. Shasta during the day, and a star filled sky as night.
EVERYONE is so friendly, and most campers are willing to share what they are looking at in their scopes. The family that owns the ranch this is on is so very welcoming, and put on a great (pay) dinner one night. The shops- restaurants in Adin, and other near by areas are happy to have us, and always treat us warmly. The only negative is that it does get very, very, very windy in the day, and hot too, while the nights can get quiet chilly. Porta-potties on site, and the local high school allows the use of their showers...
If astronomy is your thing, this is a great place to do it.

Staff here so friendly... some serious astronomers and equipment here who welcome others to stargaze. CLEAN potties with wash stations, hot shower stalls, breakfast and dinner available, and choice of camp spot. Only minus was cow pies everywhere but totally dried.
