Went to the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden for their final “Dome After Dark” of the season and it was amazing. The lighting and decor really highlighted the plants and made everything come alive with color. It was a bit more crowded than I anticipated with a ticketed event but we still had a such a good time. The gift shop was also very cute with different plant themed items for sale.

One of the best activities I did on my first trip to Iowa!! My boyfriend got us tickets to the garden’s Night of Lights event and I’m so glad he did!! The outdoor gardens in the winter are closed (which makes perfect sense) but that doesn’t mean there isn’t lots to do in the dome inside!! Diverse plants and sculptures, waterfalls, koi fish, painting exhibits, and a huge greenhouse and kids area!! The gift shop is also very very cute and the viewing areas of the garden were great and convenient for a little break from walking all over the gardens. I highly recommend the Night of Lights for a cute date night, family outing, or even as a cute solo date activity!

Although it was beautiful inside of the 2 greenhouses to see tropical plants and others, outside was still out-of-season getting ready to bloom. We really enjoyed staying there but I wish there were off-season price setting. We definitely come back when the weather gets better!

It was a neat place to go and my teenage girls really enjoyed it too. We went in March before the outside area was blooming and the water fall was going, but it was still a very enjoyable experience.

The Des Moines Botanical Garden is an absolute gem! From the moment you step inside, you’re surrounded by stunning greenery, vibrant flowers, and beautifully curated landscapes. The variety of plants is truly impressive, and the indoor conservatory is a breathtaking escape, especially during colder months.

The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, always ready to answer questions or share interesting facts about the exhibits. Whether you’re exploring the tropical plants, relaxing in the outdoor gardens, or attending one of their events, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

It’s a peaceful, inspiring space that’s perfect for a leisurely stroll, a family outing, or even just some quiet time to connect with nature. I can’t recommend it enough—it’s a must-visit for both locals and visitors!

Green scenery is so needed, especially during the long winter months in Iowa. I wish this place had longer hours, but they do have the Dome After Dark event on many Friday evenings. More evening course would be awesome. But if you like to get away from the crazy weather in Iowa, go here.

$12 for general admission, great place to reflect and enjoy sunny weather. They have a cute gift shop with a lot of interesting souvenirs as well.

This was my first time going and even though it was winter it was well worth it! They had Blues music, and drinks available in the dome and we had an incredible lunch at the Fleur Cafe! I can't wait to come back and see more!
