Heartland Hotel and Suites - Rock Valley, Iowa

We initially planned to stay at the Grand Stay Hotel which was booked on the night we needed, so we booked room with the Heartland Hotel and Suites. Our room was clean and neat. Bed was comfortable. The toliet paper, behind the bathroom door isn't the most convenient. The towels and washcloths were fluffy and clean. However, the breakfast left much to be desired. On Sundays, they don't open the breakfast bar until 7 am. I guess other days, it opens at 6 am. There are several of us waiting at 6:50 am and the staff person walks in at 7:07 am! She has problems with her keys...can't unlock the main office or the room to the breakfast foods. It takes her about 20 minutes to get things set up, not that there is that much to set up. What was offered: a few mini muffins, bagels, granola bars, white bread, 2 kinds of cold cereal, some packets of oatmeal and the usual waffle offerings. In the frig was 1% milk, cream cheese, some yogurt, a few apples, a half full jug of orange juice and half full jug of apple juice, both of which were quickly emptied. Then she forgot to set out the plastic spoons, knives and forks. We had to ask for those. If you are going to offer breakfast at 7 am, it should be set up by 7 am, not 30 minutes later.

Great hotel at a phenomenal value. Room was clean as a whistle- including the bathroom. Beds were very comfortable and the room was a good size. Breakfast had waffles and a few other items. Staff was all very friendly.

Got to hotel and there was a sign on the door saying they where closed due to no electricity ( power was on at that time) called the hotel to see why we were not notified. Was told at that time that we could stay but there was no water. When I asked about a my payment he said as I made it through a 3rd party there was nothing he could do. I called 3rd party booking he would not answer the phone.
We did end up negotiating a discount but that was before we saw the rooms.
The upper level room was ok. But the lower level rooms floor/carpet was wet the mattress was damp and the room has a sewage smell and mold.
When we tried to check out there was no one at the desk or answering there phone.

We where there by 10:15 pm. We did not know the hotel was having problems as they did not contact us. We where told we could stay but there was no water. WE WERE NOT TOLD ABOUT THE SEWER BACK UP INTO THE LOWER ROOMS. We asked for a refund but were told as we used a 3rd party booking site there was nothing they could do. And as I stated above the booking site tried to call and email them multiple times in the hour I was waiting with my family.
Bottom line if they would have reached out before we got there these problems would not have happened.

It is a locally owned small hotel, very comfortable beds & clean room for our needs. Would stay there again.

All good but there are a woman that is very very rude she looks like asiatic woman, we check in monday 18 March at night she was very very disrespectful, rude and loud-mouthed woman who doesn't think about making you feel bad. she has a serious problem of attitude with Hispanic people. This hotel runs good but this kind of people is not good for stay on front desk.

Manager and staff not dressed professionally. After check in, room smelled bad and asked for another room. Told hotel full and address in AM. Next morning manager rude when asked for new room. Same story-hotel full. Checked Expedia and rooms were available. Showed manager available rooms. Said “well you booked online so….”. Room changed after more money. At 06:45AM had to ring bell and wait 8-10 minutes for clerk in her robe to check out. She was unable to clarify bill. Just said “it will just go on credit card.” So not acceptable. I called to make a reservation prior to booking on Expedia and the room rate quoted $10 higher than Expedia. Gave them a chance first but value my money so used Expedia.

I needed a room for the night while attending a wedding at a nearby vineyard. Booked the night's stay through a third party vendor and everything worked out smoothly.

Rolled into town right when check-in time said the room would be available, but it was still being cleaned so I had to wait about fifteen minutes before getting into it - which was fine.

The room itself was sufficient for the price, but not amazing - but I'm not expecting much more for a room in a small town in Iowa. Continental breakfast was adequate as well.

If I ever needed to find a room in Rock Valley again (can't foresee that) I'd book it again.

I stayed in this motel for 2 nights in September 2018. I'm looking to book a motel again in the area and remembered just how poor my experience was with this location, and decided I would share. First, the room had no iron or ironing board in spite of saying that it would. Then the hair dryer was about to fall out of the wall. The woman on duty did her best to solve the issues and I applaud her. The next day we received no maid service of any kind. When I asked about this, I was told that the manager told the housekeeping staff not to come in. The staff wouldn't outright say it but I presume it was because there were so few people staying over the week-end. It literally looked like we had the motel to ourselves. I asked to speak to the manager and was told that the manager wouldn't take phone calls unless it was an emergency. So, we slept in a dirty room with dirty towels. NOT impressed. As I anticipate a stay again in the area, I won't be staying there.
