This review is about the administration, not the nurses. I called HMC in Medina to see if they by chance had found my pill holder that I possibly lost while visiting a dying family member. They said if they found any medication they would’ve destroyed it. I told them I really just wanted to know if it was found so I could stop looking elsewhere. They transferred me to some desk to a very rude woman who didn’t even tell me who she was or why I was transferred to her. She repeated that they would’ve destroy it so I repeated that I just wanted to know if someone turned it in. She was super rude. Nothing like the very nice, kind nurses we met.

My mother entered the facility on January 9th. Her bloodwork showed liver failure and the Nurse Practitioner, Michael, thought she'd have about two weeks to live. Her brother came to visit on January 12 and she had a two-day rally of energy. On Friday, January 13th we were advised that our mother couldn't stay. Michael gave us a condescending lecture on the rules of medicare, but we assured him self-pay was no problem. Still, we were told we needed a nursing home. He said the facility had only 17 beds. "Maybe if we were a facility of 40 beds," he said.
So instead of spending Monday with our mother, we spent the day vetting nursing homes. Our mother was terrified that in her frail condition she might have to move somewhere. Over the weekend, her condition declined. She stopped eating and drinking. We met again with Michael on Monday afternoon, and he was rude, condescending and dismissive. When I asked a question, he put his hand up to my face to silence me. He quizzed my sister on the discussion from Friday, as if she were a child. Our mother died Wednesday morning, and we had never been given any explanation of why we were sent on a goose chase instead of holding mom's hand. When she died, the facility had 8 open beds. The nursing care is phenomenal, and the nurses were outraged at the thought of our mother being moved. But the administration in this facility is very poor. The amount of stress this added to our grief is unconscionable.

My wife was in their care for the final 3 months of her life, while at home. Even under COVID conditions, they handled everything awe needed with professional, yet very personal care.

When my wife passed at 11:45PM, the nurse was on the scene in just over an hour (because her living patient had priority), handled all my needs with grace and compassion, and made all the arrangements needed. The funeral staff was a bit slow arriving, and after we had disposed of the dangerous drugs, she offered to stay with me until they could be there.

For those in need, I can not recommend better people to entrust with a loved one's final days. Thank you, angels, for the time you gave us, and all the care you showed.

I work in EMS and medical transport; we are called here at least twice a week...Great staff and clean facility. They are always very respectful, kind and professional. Patients are well cared for and comfortable whenever we are there. We don't deal with the administrative aspects often but they appear to be well organized and seem to have a solid reputation. I would certainly recommend to friends or family.

My wife in her final day's was in the care of Hospice of Medina in November 2019. I cannot say enough about how everyone here cared for my wife and my family that visited. The compassion was outstanding from the nurses to assistant's to the doctor all were professional and very caring. One nurse cried when my wife passed. May God bless these wonderful people and I and my family will never forget you all.

My dad was in hospice for a few days before he passed. During that time the nurses made him as comfortable as possible and were very attentive to me and my family, and most importantly my dad. My experience with HMC was excellent. I can’t thank them enough for their services during one of the most difficult times in our lives. I can’t imagine doing the work they do daily and am very appreciative of their services. They are special people. Thank you!

After a terrible experience with Hospice of the Western Reserve, I suggest you never trust your loved ones last days to them. During my mother's last 2 weeks. Emily, the social worker was there only 1 time, only 1 time in 16 days. I was told that she was the social worker in charge of my mother's case. I called her a couple of times, she never returned my phone calls. I talked to her only once. Wayne Scott....1 time in 16 days! He spent about 10 minutes with my mother. I was there that day and met him. Perhaps he was in the building for 30 minutes but not with my mother, I can assure you. Then, about a week later, I practically begged him to go visit her because she was upset. He declined.

I will never forget how:
1. I tried to get help for my mother when she was having such a hard time accepting that she was in Hospice and helping her understand it. Yet, no help from Hospice
2. I tried to get help for her when she was depressed and unwilling to accept death. Yet, no help from Hospice
3. I called to try to get her medication in a timely matter during that last night. Yet, no help from Hospice
4. I had to call Hospice on the evening of the 20th to get someone to go and check on my mom and evaluate her. Kristen was there in the morning and called me to tell me that she was fading fast. Yet, nobody was scheduled to check on her later that evening. I had to insist that someone go to see her. I was told that someone would be there within the hour. I called 2 hours later and Darlene Cooney had finally got there.
5. Darlene Cooney had to tell me that my mother told her "Everybody leaves me, my daughter left me. You aren't going to leave me." I said, "So you are going to stay." she replied..."No" Darlene didn't think that she was 24-48 hours away from dying. Even though the Magnolia nursing home nurses thought that she was close. My niece, who watched her mother die of cancer and the Magnolia aides all thought that she was close.
6. When I was called the next morning to be told my mother died, I felt bad that the last thing I know she said was that everyone leaves her. What a terrible thing to pass along to the woman's ONLY daughter. A daughter that left and lives in Arizona. It broke my heart and will be ringing in my ear for a long time.

Darlene told me that my mom didn't qualify for "By your side" care. My mom died about 10 hours later! Here was an old bitter, angry woman, afraid of death with no family there AT ALL!! Hospice couldn't use enough compassion and common sense to let her have "By your side care".

I am saddened by the lack of caring given to my mother in her last weeks, but especially the last hours by Hospice. Dr. Esterle was really pushing to get her into Hospice. I am sorry that I did it now. I had experienced a friend passing with Hospice here in Sedona, AZ and they were so caring and were with her 24 -7. I should have just left her in the care of Magnolia nursing home exclusively.

Their lame apology "We are sorry we didn't meet my needs better" Not meet our needs....that is an understatement. Hospice completely failed my mother and me when we needed you the most. The end was near and it was supposed to be your mission to give comfort and care. You failed. End of life care...really?

My only hope is that my critique will not fall on def ears and they will take what happened to us and fix these issues so that another family doesn't go through the same pain that you have put us through.

Every staff member here is truly amazing. From the front desk to the nurses, they are wonderfully caring individuals. I cannot say enough positive things about the nurses and aides. My grandpa was well taking care of.
