We had a very pleasant stay at Hotel Julien Dubuque. The location was convenient with plenty of nearby amenities and great walkable restaurants. Our room was clean and comfortable, and while the decor felt a bit dated, everything was well maintained. The kids loved the pool and indoor hot tub. The lobby staff was welcoming and helpful, sharing local tips on visiting the nearby kid-friendly aquarium. Morning coffee in the lobby was a nice touch. Overall, a comfortable stay with great hospitality.

Dear Hotel Owner,
I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction with my recent experience at your hotel, and I must say, I am thoroughly disappointed with the level of service I received. Upon arrival, I was given the wrong room, and after spending 30 minutes explaining the situation, I was assigned another room. However, when I entered the new room, I found the covers on the floor, towels carelessly thrown in the bathroom, and the room in a filthy state.
I returned downstairs to report the issue, only to be told that the hotel was fully booked and housekeeping had finished for the day. I requested a refund since I was not going to stay in such a dirty room, only to be told I would need to call back because there was no manager on duty. This is entirely unacceptable and reflects poorly on your business.
When I called the following day, the manager proceeded to argue with me, claiming that it showed I had checked in and stayed. I explained the situation clearly, yet the manager continued to dispute my claims. This lack of professionalism and respect for your guests is appalling.
If this matter is not addressed promptly and to my satisfaction, I will be forced to escalate the issue further. I will not hesitate to share my story with the local newspaper and online review platforms, as I believe others deserve to know about the poor service and conditions at your hotel. I expect a swift resolution and a formal apology.

Before I get into it, shout-out to Ron from the front desk! He made our stay perfect.||I absolutely LOVED my stay! Even as a native Dubuquer, the Hotel Julien is a wonderful place. My husband and I got one of the King Suites with Whirlpool tub. The room was gorgeous, the furniture was comfortable, we really enjoyed the Whirlpool tub- it was all great! There was a nice large bathroom, plus some comfortable bath robes already in the closet. We ate at Caroline's during our stay and the food was PHENOMENAL! The Sweetheart Experience package was definitely worth it as well.

The Hotel Julien Dubuque Dating is a stately hotel dating from 1839. It is in an excellent location being only a few minutes walk from the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium. The rooms are comfortable and spacious with all the usual visitor features including designer complimentary toiletries. Hotel amenities include a lovely restaurant and bar, an indoor pool, spa and hot tub plus a fitness centre. Recommended.

I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful view of the river from our room but we had a difficult time seeing the view because the windows were so incredibly filthy. Inside and out. I do understand that keeping the character of the vintage windows is very important to the aesthetics of the hotel but these windows were appalling. Beautiful wood grain with metal pulls none the less but I had a hard time enjoying the view through the filth. We saw dead bugs in nearly ever window that look like they have been there for months. A window cleaner and someone to detail the window sills should be a priority for your spring cleaning. We spent a lot of money for this view and it was disappointing. Also, the door under the kitchen sink needs a good tightening. Besides that, the room was overall fine and extremely quiet which I very much appreciate. I would potentially like to return to use the spa next time since we spend a lot of our summer in Dubuque on the river, however, I likely would opt for a different view based on the condition of the windows on the fourth floor facing the river. The front desk staff were great and the woman at our check out was so sweet and genuine. Overall, grateful for this beautiful place but ouch on those windows!

Wonderful historic hotel. We stayed in a whirlpool suite and were very pleased. Large corner room with views of downtown and the river. We loved the character and charm. Great location and walking distance to lots of bars and restaurants. Ate both breakfasts at Dottie’s Diner. A small, old diner with typical diner food and prices. We enjoyed it the first morning so we had breakfast there again the next morning. One dinner at The Vault, that was delicious! Another dinner at Barrel House, which was more of a sports bar but the food was good. The hotel is downtown but just a short drive to many walking trails and activities. This was our first visit to Dubuque and we look forward to going back and staying at the Julien.

My first time visiting Iowa. I marked this hotel as my only option due to its historic past. We only stayed for one night but we would definitely stay again. Room was kept in very good shape. Restaurant in the basement was enjoyable. Room service was quick and efficient. And the location was scenic!

This is my 1st 1 star review that I've left for a business.
The amount of 1 star reviews in the last 7 months that this hotel has recieved should speak mountains how this buisness operates as of late. I am a local, and spent around $250 on a walk in hotel stay. Here are my complaints.
1, I was standing in front of a counter the counter person Hope for 5 minutes before she acknowledged me. No one else was in the lobby, I was 1 foot from her face.
2, they would not except cash.
3, I paid close to 250 for a room with 0 windows.
4, I'm on the 3rd floor, it's 11pm and trying to get sleep, and I can hear and feel the band, and hollering from 3 floors down.
5, the room is dingy.

Being such a self described "local gem" I'm incredibly disappointed. The responses from the business to it's star reviews are automated and are in no way being cared about.

I'm shocked that a millions of dollars historical site is being run like a 1 star motel. The Julien should be ashamed.
