Wow, what a cool place! The museum its great, but definitely take a tour of the actual home of the Cash family! Our guide was very personable and answered all of our questions - It was just 6 of us total for the tour. They seem very proud of what has been renovated and they should be! Great place in history!

The Johnny Cash home place has been carefully and lovingly restored by Arkansas State University with a lot of help from Joanie Cash (I apologize if I have misspelled her name), Johnny's youngest sister. This is an absolute treasure! Very few of these old homes from this WPA colony have survived, and I am so grateful that these folks in the Arkansas upper delta didn't tear it down. The museum, the house, the land-- you get a real sense of the background of a great America artist. I'm so glad I went. With it's close proximity to the Mississippi River, I suppose you could say Dyess is America's Stratford-on-Avon. If you're in the area--go see this place. You will learn some things you didn't know about Johnny Cash and American history too.

This is an excellent, a must-go destination. Not only if you are interested in Johnny Cash and his early years. But especially as the museum and the house introduce you to the history of the Dyess Colony, a social housing and farming project rooted in Roosevelt's New Deal of the 1930s. Turns out that the life of Johnny Cash and his family was changed – like that of millions of Americans in that period – to the better by a far-sighted, supportive, enduring and sustainable government project. Be sure that Daniel is available as a tour guide. A Dyess native with such great knowledge and eben greater stories to tell!
