I have lived in lake placid for most of my life and I was told I have been up there because I was 6 or 7 when it closed in 2003. I don't remember this experience so the tower has always had a curious aura to me. Also my pops very first job was cleaning graffiti and trash from this 250ft plus giant. It did have a restaurant at the 1st floor I remember. Just a quick fact the tower opened on January 1st in 1961.

The famous Placid Tower. It would be cool to go inside and go up to the top but unfortunately it is closed. You can still enjoy it's beauty. I used a drone to get better pictures and an idea of what it would look like from the walkway.

Nothing really special, but has been a Lake Placid Florida landmark for years. Read about the history of it. Glad to see it still standing but would be awesome to see it open to the public.

I remember one Summer in the early 70's our family went up the tower and on a clear day it was said you could see Cuba , unfortunately we didn't on that day. It was a great experience for all of us!

It's sad that the area is not maintained. This is a great piece of history for the area. But no one is doing anything to revitalize the area. You have many vacant store fronts. There is a run-down motel that is used for housing for the fruit pickers. It's a shame that the City officials have allowed this to become an eye sore.
