Mrs. McCurley appeared to be easy to work with, my oldest daughter and I engaged Mrs. McCurley to prepare food for the engagement party of my youngest daughter on October 21, 2017, six weeks in advance for 35 people. We did increase the number of people to 40 a week before the event. We chose a simple menu of fried chicken, Virginia ham, potato salad, deviled eggs, cheese straws, fruit and dip, green beans, rolls, and banana pudding. We paid in advance. My oldest daughter and son-in-law picked up the food on the morning of the luncheon. When the food arrived about an hour before the party was to begin I opened the chicken and to my dismay found the crust of the chicken over cooked and in some places black, with grease dripping from the pieces and moisture collected in the aluminum container. The chicken was soggy. Instead of Virginia ham Mrs. McCurley sent cheap fried county ham swimming in grease and a small container of bits of ham cut from a bone of some kind of cured ham labeled "Virginia Ham." I could have cried. It was too late to procure chicken or ham form any other source. We had to place the food on serving dishes and put them on the dinning table. When I was putting the fruit dip in a serving dish I notice large chunks of cream cheese in the dip. I tried to remove as many as I could and still have some dip left. Our guest did not eat the ham, we had all of the ham left over.
Mrs. McCurley did a good job with the potato salad, deviled eggs and banana pudding. The beans were OK, but they were canned. The rolls were bought.
I was very embarrassed in front of my guest.
