Nurses and therapists are very good! (5 stars!) BUT - Scheduling is a big problem that the company seems unable or unwilling to correct. They say they cannot provide regular weekly appointments for therapy or nursing visits or even give at least 24 hrs notice (because they make the schedule every morning and schedule new urgent patients first.) Although it makes sense for urgent patients to be seen first, the company refuses to make regular appointments, even when a patient needs two therapy appointment each week for 5 weeks! This was very stressful and caused much unnecessary anxiety for my elderly father. Often, the care providers called only 30' in advance and said "I'm coming OK?." Unfortunately, I learned that if the patient cannot be available on such short notice (because they are sleeping, eating or have another appointment), the company records that as a "missed visit" - and they told my Dad that Medicare would quit paying if he had too many missed visits (which, of course, was misleading - at best - and caused even more anxiety for my Dad). BOTTOM LINE: Amedisys caregivers (nurses and therapists) in Calhoun are excellent, compassionate and professional. Unfortunately, the administrators (supervisors, schedulers, "case managers" - if indeed there are any) are not so good (1 star). A real case manager, more communication and more consideration for patients would make this a much better organization.
