My husband and I stayed at the Roger Sherman Inn along with 3 other family members in August of 2024. We had dined there in the past and thought that we would stay there for our granddaugher’s engagement party. To say we were extremely disappointed is putting it mildly. Our room in the carriage house was nice but the bathroom was very outdated and the shower didn’t work properly. The bed was extremely lumpy and uncomfortable. We went for breakfast as a group of 5 and looked forward to the advertised “danish”. What we found on the cake stand was 3 muffins and a few slices of some type of cake. There was no butter or jelly. There was regular coffee but no decaf coffee or decaf tea. There was no staff present and when one staff person did appear they did not speak or understand English. One guest who was also staying there kept coming in and looking for food and said “my wife won’t believe this”. To say we were extremely disappointed is an understatement. We won’t be back.

Diner for Thanksgiving 2024 here with a big group of relatives. It was chaotic due to the previous group in our room and the crowd that formed our group, but after all it went fast and perfect. Everybody got what they ordered and real fast, drinks were refilled in time, and the service was with a smile. Thank you.

We stayed at the Roger Sherman because family did not have enough room. We stayed in the cottages. We had a queen cottage, It was small, smelled moldy, cracked tile. Very old. It was clean but bathroom towels smelled of disinfect. |This was rated a 4 star, it was not.

Stayed here for my 60th high-school reunion in Darien. It was a pleasant enough experience —until I viewed my receipt online after departure: it tacked on the time-worn scam of charging an inflated price for 2 bottles of water (which I never even saw, let alone, consumed!). I guess most guests never notice or complain about this profit-builder!

I stayed at the inn for three nights and it was really lovely and felt like I was sleeping in someone’s guestroom. The breakfast is served very simply, but in the pretty bar room. The front desk staff is simply amazing. They were all so kind, especially Maya and Jennifer. I also took my mother here that same weekend for Mother’s Day dinner. The food was just out of this world. I will be back for sure!!!

Outstanding food and service at brunch. JP was an amazing host and super accommodating for our group of 10. A last minute request for a large birthday cake was cheerfully fulfilled and it was without question an amazing carrot cake!

Food 5/10
Ordered a lot of food, but the duck was a bit dry. Oysters were very much just okay. The bok choy helped lighten my meal, but otherwise it overall was just an “okay” meal.

Atmosphere 8/10
A typical inn restaurant, white linen clothes and tables. A little on the formal side. The bathroom was very interesting with its butterfly wallpaper.

Service 8/10
Good service.

This was our second dinner there and everything was first rate, including the wine selection. We had the lobster bisque and an endive salad, followed by roast duck and a ribeye steak. They have a well stocked bar and a list of special house cocktails. We had a superior rose and chardonnay with dinner, after starting with a round of drinks from the bar. Everything from the ambience to the quality of the food and service was welcoming and first quality. We always leave there looking forward to returning. Very simply, expensive but worth it.
