There’s something about being off grid, walking the land, eating snacks every two hours while carrying 50 lbs on your back, and sleeping in a tent next to your best friend under the stars that grounds your soul. It’s even better that Root Adventures brought me 7 other new best friends. I did this trip two summers ago and we all keep in touch - and I talk about this experience as one of the best things I’ve done for myself in a long while. The trip I went on to Patagonia with Root Adventures was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. It is clear from the level of thought and detail that went into this trip that the Founder, Breanne, truly considers Root a labor of love. I felt so taken care of every step of the way, from the pre-trip calls, to the coordination of transportation, lodging, and meals — not having to worry about those kinds of logistics allowed me to really lean into the overall goal of the trip, mindfulness and connection.

Words cannot begin to describe how incredible the people were that I met on this trip. Our group leader, Kristen Ales, created spaces that allowed for such effortless connection and bonding. I highly encourage anyone who is looking for a truly special group travel experience to look into joining a future Root trip. I’m already signed up for another trip with Root and have a feeling it won’t be my last one 🙂

WOW--experience of a lifetime! Thank you!!
I was looking for a chance to mark the emerging from a rough passage in my life--physical injury recovery and the release of a harmful substance dependency--and the Kayaking/Hiking/Camping trip they offered in the Pacific Northwest was the perfect way to do that. The Root Adventures team did an amazing job from start to finish--in fact, two weeks after the trip has ended, and we are still all enjoying supportive coaching in integrating the experience, and a wickedly funny group chat with fellow group attendees, coaches and local guides.

We faced strong currents, encountered seals, deer and YES, orcas. We experienced "water diamonds" with late-night bioluminescence, saw breathtaking sunsets and enjoyed great, locally sourced food. We camped low-impact, and local guides ensured we enjoyed ourselves and let only footprints behind.

If you want to feel supported and challenged, wild and safe, looked after and given solitude, rugged and pampered, somehow between the local guides and the Root leaders, it all happened. Mindfulness, meditation, appreciation for nature were all front and center throughout the trip, but kept really accessible for those newer to these practices.

I loved that the group had two online sessions together to help connect us and get us excited for the trip, and we are going to have a wrap-up session, soon, too. A quality experience through and through that only piques my curiosity for their other upcoming adventures.

What an incredible experience in Patagonia with Root! Words cannot even begin to describe this experience with some of the most amazing women. We all came in as solo travelers and left as friends for life. We trekked through the stunning Torres del Paine National Park that had some of the bluest glacier water I’ve ever seen! After trekking each day, we reflected on the various life transitions we were all experiences. Everyone was extremely vulnerable in sharing their stories and we all left with a new sense of clarity. I already booked another trip with Root in December and I absolutely cannot wait!!
