I thought the tea room would be boring and awkward, but it was really interesting and fun. I want to go back to tour the house! They tell you the history of Maria and there are delicious local snacks and good tea. I could see it may not be something for everyone, but I really really enjoyed it. Also the haters in the other reviews clearly don't appreciate a good story and snacks!

I’d only recommend the tea room experience if you are serious about hearing Maria’s and some of Pella’s story. Additionally, be aware that you will be getting a light snack (if you end up liking the snacks) rather than a meal if you thought this was a place for lunch, which was my mistake.

After about an hour of hearing the life story of Maria, the life story of Maria’s children, and the life story of who Maria carried an affair with, we were served tea bags, three small cookies, one almond tart, one chocolate, a half teaspoon chunk of cheese, a three quarters millimeter of a meat stick, sliced bread, and a dip that my mom claimed tasted just like an Aldi brand.

I then found it rather absurd that the employee played a post modern violin cover of “A Thousand Years” rather than Franz Liszt (who Maria enjoyed) because the employee thought his music was too “somber”. Meanwhile, Liszt’s compositions are some of the most sanguine and brilliantly easy listening pieces of the time. I still can’t understand what goes on in these people’s minds.

You will also have to pay an additional $10 fee to view all the rooms of the Scholte House apart from the $15 tea time.

Stopped in over the weekend and had a wonderful time. My wife and I are the type to inquire and ask a lot of questions and the very kind and knowledgeable lady at the front must've taken 20-30 minutes to chat with us not just about the house but about the history of Pella in general.

We had the good fortune to be the only folks there and got to take a very leisurely stroll through reading the many informative plaques placed around the house.

The house itself was very well kept and is clearly well cared for. There were many interesting artifacts from Scholte and his family in the house and we learned a lot about the founders of the town.

We had a great time and it was well worth the price of admission for anyone looking to have some fun-ducation.

Stopped in to tour the house and was greeted by a very personable lady who gave us the instructions. It was a self guided home with lots of beautiful items from the home to explore. Toured upstairs and downstairs in about 20-30 mins. Then walked through the gardens.
