Sergio at The Texas State Aquarium was lacking in knowledge.  Throughout the planning process he failed to answer questions in person or email. He took forever to follow up with us and misled us in many ways. We really thought anything was possible at the aquarium but we realized that was far from true. We couldn’t have my favorite drink (Moscow mule) and several other things we wanted. On top of that communication with Sergio was never great. And during a moment of confusion I asked my mom to reach out to Belia to clarify something and the next time we talked to Sergio he gave us a big lecture on how we shouldn’t be talking to Belia. How she isn’t client facing but he is and we shouldn’t be asking her questions. That really left a bad taste in our mouth and I was worried about him continuing to be mad at us and our wedding being ruined. My mom even called him to apologize just to try to smooth things over and give us some peace of mind. The Bartenders were terrible.  They were not real bartenders and were very slow and not knowledgeable.  They made comments to guests how "they don't usually do this".  There was also confusion about the bar closing during cocktail hour. Some guests were denied drinks because the bar was closed while others were served.  For only 150 guests with only around 100 of the guests being adults who drank, the lines were continually long at the bar and  a source of complaints from our guests. We were also dissapointed that the bar prices were not explained to us prior.  We were under the impression that the prices would be $12 cocktails, $10 beer, and $ 8 wine.  We did not know it would be an average of $10 a drink.  This would have changed things for us had we known that and we would have not just paid for beer and wine at the reception, if we had known that every drink would be charged at $10. On top of that we found out that guests were being charged for beer at the reception. I have emails explicitly stating that we wanted to pay for beer and wine. I have emails to Sergio stating that we wanted to pay for beer and wine spending up to $4000 on our own tab and then making it a cash bar. We never made it to that limit but guests were being charged for beer. We had prepaid for three kegs that did not run out ever yet when guests asked for a Dos Equis they were given a can by a bartender and charged. This is unacceptable. We also heard complaints from several of our guests that they were denied entry to the aquarium until ten til 6.  We did not encourgage our guests to come early, and it's dissapointing that they did.  But it is unfortunate that they had to wait outside in high heat temperatures until they could come in.  Especially for our elderly guests.
We also heard from several guests complaints that they did not get to try the appetizers during cocktail hour. This is dissapointing because we had much fewer guests than we paid for.  Only about 150 guests.  We paid for 180 of each appetizer and we probably only hadd 130 guests at cocktail hour because of family pictures and wedding party pictures.  I'm not sure how 360 appetizers could go so quickly with only around 130 people that we heard several complaints of guests not having any. We also received complaints from family that the cake was cut badly. When we arrived to set up before our rehearsal on Friday the 30th, I realized all the napkins were not the color I wanted. The linens looked terrible on the tables and were very wrinkly. And Sergio would not let the Photo Booth drop off some equipment.

In total we spent almost 30,000 just at the aquarium and we are disappointed in all the complaints we have personally and the complaints from our guests.  We wanted our wedding to be beautiful and memorable so hearing all the negative is really discouraging.  The food was great and plentiful and we did hear positive things about the food quality and portion sizes of the strolling reception.

Please do not plan your events here. We were planning on having my child’s birthday party here and we were super excited because we LOVE the zoo. They sent us a packet with pricing and once we had sent the deposit, they kept adding ridiculous fees that we were not made aware of. Our point of contact was Adeline Lucero and she made the process incredibly hard and unpleasant.

My company had a year end party at the Olympic Museum and they catered it. I would rate them less than 1 star if I could. The food was mediocre at best, very little options for someone that needs to be gluten free. We arrived and were there for less than 10 minutes, when we went to the "bar" to get a sprite. First of all, we were charged $8 for one bottle of sprite split between two people! Then, the bar tender was trying to slide the drinks across the table with a table cloth on it, both glasses spilled down the front of my dress and into my boots. The only thing he could say was he was sorry. He was more concerned about the sprite on the floor than all down the front of me. It was someone else in line that offered me cocktail NAPKINS to wipe off my dress and boots. The bartender continued to serve the next person in line while someone else went to get another sprite. Finally when the other person returned with the sprite I was offered a rag to wipe off my dress. Never ONCE did anyone offer us anything for what had happened. I completely understand that accidents will happen, but it's how those accidents are handled that make the difference.

I planned a company picnic for 560 employees and worked with SSA group to have our event run smoothly and that was not the case. It was as if the event was never planned. The event planner had the day off of our event and assured us we would be well taken care of by a director. The planner never responded in a timely manner I was constantly having to follow up with my questions. After our event they were very well aware of a mess of the catering because they kept running out of food. They were also giving away our food to people that were not part of our event. I talked to General Manager and she apologized for the horrible experience and offered us a refund on the catering. It has been a month later and I have not heard back from them. I got one response after I asked the status and they assured me I would get the check in a few days but when I asked where it would be mailed they stopped responding. I work for a multi million company and have planned several events over the years and nothing compares to this. This was a terrible experience and continues to be.

They do not cash out tips for bartenders at stock show like they did in previous years, so it is not a lucrative side-job anymore, and director of food and beverage was very unprofessional over email.

Good food good drinks good time very nostalgic place to be ... not many places exist like this anymore .. I remember when kendall was littered with places like this so it feels like home. As a proud colombian I hope this place lasts another 50+ years

Been here for about 40 minutes ringing a bell (at least 10 times) it’s asking me to ring. I hear people here but no one will come up front. There’s no point of having the sign if your going to just ignore the bell.

The City should have stayed over the Zoo because the people that was hired to improve business is Bad for Business, not friendly staff for this facility.
