Western Falls of Cascade - Elyria, Ohio

I’ve been taking my two sons, ages 7 and 10, to Cascade Park in Elyria every two to three weeks, and it’s become our go-to spot for family fun and a little creative escape. This park never gets old! My boys absolutely love the playground and the water play area—they’re drenched and grinning every time, which gives me plenty of time to indulge in my favorite part: capturing slow-motion shots of the waterfalls.

The East and West Falls along the Black River are a photographer’s dream. I bring my camera on every visit, and the trails make it so easy to scout out new angles. The cascading water against the rocky cliffs and hemlock-lined paths gives my footage a stunning, almost magical quality—I’m still amazed at how each trip yields something fresh, no matter how often we come. While the kids burn off energy or sometimes join me to gawk at the falls, I get to lose myself in the scenery and perfect those shots.

The park itself is a lifesaver for a busy parent—plenty of parking, clean restrooms, and a layout that’s both safe and exciting for the kids. We often take a quick hike to the falls, and though the woodsy trails can be a bit rugged, my sons treat it like an epic adventure. Cascade Park has nailed the balance of natural beauty and family-friendly fun, which is why we keep coming back every couple of weeks. It’s our little tradition now—playtime for them, waterfall magic for me!

Very nice place to go walking, climbing rocks ( easy climbing). There are 2 parks. The place is very clean. But if you are not familiar with that part of town, maps can really screw you up.
Was just about to give up when we found it.

387 Furnace St is the place you go to park.
It's about a 15 minute walk on the trail. It will say western falls trail.
Do not steer off to the left trails, those are different. Stay on the pavement until you reach the bridge that is always closed and to the right is the overlook.
It's beautiful and worth it!

Finally get close to the falls!!! Went there couple times and couldn’t find the parking! It’s beautiful waterfalls and nice weather today! It’s beautiful during fall! The trail covered by beautiful leaves! The Rivers are flowing nicely! The multiple colors of trees are alongside of river!

Great park in Elyria Ohio. They have a nice trail leading to the falls. It's a beautiful walk and you're at the falls in 10 minutes or so. There are some good restaurants to visit nearby when you're done as well.

We hike at Cascade all the time but this was my first time making it to the falls (with three toddlers). I was pleasantly surprised. It was a beautiful view and worth the trip. My kids loved it. It's such a beautiful area of the city. I hope one day there can be a restaurant nearby to view the falls.

Park at Cascade Park. But check this out if you can. Cool trail that goes different elevations along the rocks and Black River to get here. Plenty of views to be had, for sure. B4UFly will say this place is good for take off, but DJI and Aloft show as restricted due to a hospital helipad within a half mile or so.

Breathtaking! A must see. The hike is great cardio with lots of climbing and spots to view the falls and the Black River. So worth the hour drive to see.
