I was expecting a luxury resort experience but our stay was reminiscent of an overnighter at a retirement/assisted living facility. We checked in and the front desk agent was friendly but didn't tell us she had "upgraded" us to a different room than what I booked. To me, an upgrade means a better room. Not in this case. We were given room 116 which is a handicapped room the ground floor just down the hall from the lobby. Handicapped bars all over the bathroom and the handicapped shower stool was very off putting. The table in the sitting area only had one chair, allowing a wheelchair to roll up and park itself at the table too I assume. While I certainly appreciate these wheelchair accessible modifications and accommodations for the handicapped or elderly, I do not enjoy staying in a room like this on holiday. It's depressing and a foreshadowing that offends me when I'm trying to enjoy a vacation in my present good health. Most importantly, these rooms should be kept available for people that actually need these accommodations. And when you're given a different room than what you booked because the "fireplace didn't work" I think you should make sure the guest is comfortable with the room switch and that it's not actually a downgrade. Also there were no bathrobes provided which is an expectation of a resort and spa hotel. I was disappointed and would not stay here again for what we paid.

-1 the fireplace didn't work and the standalone heater broke down after about an hour. We were FREEZING. We called the front desk and got extra blankets and a small portable heater - not sure how a "4 star" hotel doesn't have functioning heat.

-1 when I told the front desk about this after check out and asked if there was anything they could do, she shrugged and said sorry, it's up to the manager.

Update - a month later and no one ever reached out to us.

Hotel is nice. The room is large and beds are comfortable. We stayed near some sort of wind tunnel in the hotel and it there was a constant very loud wind sound. The restaurant is closed on Monday - Wednesday. And the spa was also closed.

I am sure the hotel is great Thursday - Sunday as long as you can get away from the whistling wind wing of the hotel.

Went to attend a wedding event The rooms were cold, and adjusting the heat did not help at all. When a storm came, water came under the balcony slider about 5 ft into the room, resulting in wet carpeting. We also found silverfish in the bathroom each day (1 per day). If you have mobility issues, the tub is especially high, and there is a big step into the shower, and the floor is slippery in the shower. Restaurant does not open until 8:00 a.m.--they lost many customers to restaurants in the area due to that (we ate at a different place nearby each day, and saw other hotel guests there as well). The sink faucets were also loose and leaked a bit. Service at lunch was good (Hi Maria!) and the food was decent (fish & chips at least). Parking was free. There is an on-site spa which we did not use. A few miles in either direction on Hwy 1 results in spectacular ocean/cliff/beach views. The hotel overlooks Pillar Point Harbor, which is an okay view, nothing panoramic. Sea lions in the harbor will amuse children with their antics, with lots of para-sailing, wind-surfing, and sailing to observe. Kayaks are available to rent nearby. When we DID interact with staff, they were pleasant & helpful.

The Oceano Hotel in Half Moon Bay is my go-to place for relaxation and regeneration. As you arrive and check in, the hotel calls for you to relax with its welcoming check in staff, its beach themed public Great Room and its cozy and comfortable rooms with their fireplaces and balconies overlooking the HMB harbor. Once in place, you find yourself at the trailhead of a delightful 10-mile beach and cliff walk along the ocean which you can access simply by walking out the door. Plus, there are many great forest trails in easy walking distance and lots of convivial pubs and restaurants close by. Oceano Hotel is a true gem on the San Mateo Coast.

My family and I come here once a year to get away from the hustle and to bustle of the city and we've always have been pretty happy here but this past weekend felt off. The room was a usual room that we get but this time a lamp didn't work between the beds, the remote didn't work, and the bathroom had obvious water damage that had been hidden behind spackle. It's the first time that I was unhappy with the hotel room due to lack of attention to detail. My family and I may have to think about finding a new hotel for our yearly visit to HMB.

We loved recently getting to photograph a wedding at Oceano Hotel & Spa! Nancy is really amazing to work with and the venue is gorgeous. We highly recommend this venue.

Disliked · The TV service quit working after 12 hours on site and WiFi was poor i assume due to the same service provider. Not detrimental but when you have down time, especially at night after a long busy day, a little mindless entertainment goes a long way.Reported it to the front desk and basically was told because it was Comcast there was nothing she could do about it. How about contact Comcast and have them address your service issue. We were also told at check in that the power to the entire property would be turned off starting at 8am until 3pm on the morning we were to check out. While we were grateful it was our check out day, it was kind of crappy we had to get up early and get ready before the power went out rather than be able to take our time leaving. When I asked if they knew about the power situation in advance or had they just found out, I was told they had been informed in advance. Which means they should have notified their guests checking in to make them aware before their arrival so they could potentially change plans if this wasn't acceptable to them. The icing on the cake was that our toilet started leaking water all over the floor our last night. We chose to throw a towel down and wait until morning to report it as to not have our night disrupted by maintenance at 9pm. In my opinion a few too many issues for the price we were charged for our 2 night stay, which was supposed to be a stress free getaway!!
